4 Day Morocco Desert Tour: Marrakech to Merzouga via Ait Ben Haddou
A private, custom-paced escape from Marrakech through the High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO), the Dades and Todgha Gorges to the Erg Chebbi dunes — including a camel trek and a night under the stars in a Sahara desert camp.
Why our 4 day Morocco desert tour is different
Looking for the perfect 4 day Morocco desert tour? Our private route takes you from Marrakech across the High Atlas via the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka Pass to the Erg Chebbi dunes of the Sahara — the best short desert escape Morocco can offer.
Along the way you'll step inside the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (yes, the Gladiator and Game of Thrones one), sleep in the palm-fringed Dades Valley, hike the red canyon walls of the Todgha Gorges, and mount your camel for a golden-hour trek to a private desert camp deep in the dunes. Dinner under the stars, sunrise over the Sahara, then back through the Draa Valley to Marrakech.
This 4 day Morocco desert tour is 100% private — your own driver-guide, your own 4WD, your own dates. It's the fastest way to see the Sahara without the group-bus fatigue.

Your full 4 day desert tour itinerary
Pickup from your Marrakech riad or hotel after breakfast. Head south over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass — panoramic High Atlas views the whole way — stopping at the ruined Kasbah Glaoui at Telouet, once the seat of the powerful Berber Glaoui family. Lunch at a scenic spot.
Continue through Ouarzazate (Morocco's "Hollywood"), on to Skoura's palm oasis, past the fragrant Valley of Roses — home of Morocco's rose-water industry — and arrive in the red-rock Dades Gorges late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at a local kasbah-style hotel, dinner under the stars.
After breakfast, drive to the dramatic Todgha Gorges near Tinghir — 300-metre red cliffs looming above a narrow river. Walk the base, lunch at a restaurant tucked under the walls, then continue east through pre-Saharan villages to Erfoud, famous for its black fossil marble.
Arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes — Morocco's biggest — and check in at a desert inn. Freshen up, then mount your camel for an unforgettable trek deep into the dunes to a Berber tent camp. Dinner prepared over an open fire, music around the fire, sleep under a Milky Way of stars.
Sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, breakfast and hot shower back at the desert inn. Depart along the old caravan routes, cutting west through Nkob, then following the longest river valley in Morocco — the Draa — with its endless palm plantations and mud-brick villages.
Stop for lunch and to explore Agdz, a photogenic desert town, before rolling into Ouarzazate late afternoon. Overnight at a hotel of your choice.
Visit the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most photogenic earthen ksars in Morocco. It's been the backdrop for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Mummy and Game of Thrones. Walk the labyrinth of clay-brick alleys before lunch.
Cross the Atlas again on the return to Marrakech, arriving in the afternoon. Drop-off at your riad or hotel. End of tour.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a private tour or a group tour?
100% private. Every departure is just for you and your group — your driver-guide, your 4WD, your pace. No strangers, no fixed dates. You pick the days you want to travel.
How much does the 4 day Morocco desert tour cost?
Prices start from about $420 per person, based on 4 travellers sharing mid-range accommodation and a standard desert camp in low season. Solo, couple, larger-group and luxury-camp pricing is quoted on request within 24 hours.
When is the best time to travel to the Sahara?
March–May and September–November are ideal — warm days, cool nights, comfortable for camel trekking. Winter (Dec–Feb) is dramatic and quiet but cold at night in Merzouga. Summer (Jun–Aug) is intense in the Sahara — we plan around it.
Is the Sahara desert camp safe and comfortable?
Yes. Our camps have real beds, private tents, hot showers on the standard tier, and luxury upgrades available. All camps are staffed overnight and reachable by 4WD.
Can we customise the 4 day itinerary?
Absolutely. This route is a starting point, not a contract. Add a night in the desert, upgrade to a luxury camp, swap a hotel for a boutique riad, or extend to include Essaouira or Chefchaouen — just tell us.
How do we book — and how much is the deposit?
Message us on WhatsApp or fill the quick form on this page. We reply within 24 hours with your full itinerary and price. Once you're happy, a 30% deposit secures your dates. The balance is paid on arrival in cash or card.
Is 4 days enough time to see the Sahara?
Yes — 4 days is the sweet spot for a Sahara desert escape from Marrakech. It covers the drive there, a full afternoon and night in the dunes with a camel trek, sunrise the next morning, and the drive back with Ait Ben Haddou on the final day. Anything shorter and you spend most of the time on the road.
Want to see more of Morocco?
If you can spare a few more days, our 10 Day Morocco Tour: Berber Trails Itinerary extends this Sahara route to include the imperial cities, the Todgha and Dades gorges, the Draa Valley and the Atlantic coast at Essaouira. Same private team, same standards — a fuller Morocco.
