Your driver-guide welcomes you at Casablanca airport. In the late afternoon, visit the Hassan II Mosque — the largest mosque in Africa, its minaret rising 210 metres above the Atlantic. Pray Maghrib there as the sun drops into the ocean, then stroll the corniche before a halal dinner. Overnight in Casablanca.
North along the coast to Rabat, the capital: the 12th-century Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the white-and-blue lanes of the Kasbah of the Udayas above the river. Dhuhr in Rabat, then on to Meknes for the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the old medina.
Arrive in Fes in the evening — the spiritual capital of Morocco. Overnight at a riad in the medina.
A full day inside Fes el-Bali (UNESCO) with a local guide. The centrepiece is Al-Qarawiyyin — founded in 859 AD by Fatima al-Fihri and recognised as the world's oldest continuously operating university. As Muslims, you can enter and pray where scholars have prayed for over eleven centuries.
Continue through the carved-cedar courtyards of the Bou Inania and Attarine madrasas, the zaouia of Moulay Idriss II, the Chouara tanneries and the souks. Every prayer of the day falls naturally inside the medina. Overnight in Fes.
South through alpine Ifrane and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas (watch for Barbary macaques), over the Tizi n'Talghomt pass and down the palm-filled Ziz Valley to the edge of the Sahara.
At Merzouga, a camel caravan carries you into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset. Pray Maghrib on the sand as the light fades — for many guests the single most powerful moment of the trip. Halal dinner at the camp, Berber drums by the fire, and a sky full of stars. Overnight at the desert camp.
Fajr on the dunes if you wish, then sunrise over the Sahara — worth every minute of lost sleep. After breakfast, drive to Tinghir and walk the floor of the Todra Gorge, its walls rising 300 metres above a palm-lined river.
Continue through the Dades Valley — the "road of a thousand kasbahs" — and the Valley of the Roses at Kelaat M'Gouna, arriving in Ouarzazate for the evening. Honest note: this is the longest driving day of the week (around 6–7 hours with stops), but pushing to Ouarzazate tonight makes tomorrow's return to Marrakech relaxed. Halal dinner and overnight at a riad in Ouarzazate.
A short morning drive brings you to the Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou (UNESCO) — Morocco's most photogenic earthen ksar. With the whole morning ahead of you, climb to the old granary for the panorama before the day-trip crowds arrive.
Then over the High Atlas on the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m) and down to Marrakech, arriving mid-afternoon. The evening is yours — the souks, dinner near the square, or simply your riad. Overnight in Marrakech.
Marrakech with a local guide: the Koutoubia Mosque — sister of the Hassan Tower and Seville's Giralda — the beautifully restored Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Bahia Palace and the souks. If today is Friday, we arrange Jumu'ah at the Koutoubia before anything else.
